At Tapison, we’re delighted to present a new addition to our curated design selection: La Palette 1931/1959 by Layered. This limited-edition collection of four handwoven wool rugs pays homage to the legendary architect Le Corbusier and his revolutionary approach to colour in architecture.
A vision where colour becomes architecture
Le Corbusier didn’t just decorate with colour—he designed with it. In 1931 and again in 1959, he developed what would become the iconic Architectural Polychromy: a carefully composed colour system featuring 63 shades, each selected for its emotional and spatial effect. His belief? That colour could shape a space just as powerfully as form or light.
With La Palette 1931/1959, Layered translates that vision into textile art. These rugs celebrate the synergy between colour, texture, and architectural thinking—bringing depth and emotion to interiors with a timeless elegance.
Four colours, four moods
Each rug in the collection highlights a distinct colour from Le Corbusier’s palette, balancing contrast and harmony in unexpected ways.
Blue Foncé – Deep, composed, sophisticated
This rich, dark blue carries a quiet strength. Ideal as an anchor in light spaces or to deepen the atmosphere in darker rooms, Blue Foncé adds understated drama. In the words of Le Corbusier:
"Colour should serve, not dominate."
And this hue does just that—calm, powerful, refined.
Ruby Red – Warm, bold, unforgettable
A deep red with contemporary flair. Ruby Red is both elegant and energetic, evoking passion, creativity and even a sense of comfort. It’s the perfect tone for those unafraid to make a statement—whether in a modern office or a vibrant living space.
Blue Clair – Airy, subtle, modern
Soft and serene, Blue Clair offers a gentle presence. This fresh light blue is made for rooms where tranquillity matters—think bedrooms, nurseries or Scandinavian-inspired interiors. It uplifts without overwhelming, bringing balance and brightness to any setting.
Red Ochre – Earthy, grounded, chic
Inspired by natural pigment tones beloved by Le Corbusier, Red Ochre is a warm reddish brown that exudes comfort and quiet sophistication. It pairs effortlessly with materials like wood, linen and ceramics, creating a space that feels warm, slow and grounded.
A design piece with soul and story
What truly sets this collection apart is its connection to Le Corbusier’s architectural legacy. The rugs were photographed inside the Pavillon Le Corbusier in Zurich, the final building he designed. It's a setting where his love of form, colour, and proportion lives on—making it the perfect stage for this tribute collection.
Each rug is handwoven from premium wool, with a soft yet structured texture that feels as luxurious as it looks. The limited production means every piece is not just a rug—it’s a slice of design history.
